There are 143 million orphans around the globe; children without a voice, children who need love. There are children in crisis, perhaps next door, who need safety, who need care. There are families that need healing, families that need strength.
Buckner Children and Family Support Association in Latvia was officially registered on 13 September, 2004. Our main programs are: foster care support, orphanage ministry, Naval Port day center in Liepaja and various charity projects.
What business are you in?
It’s a question we ask other people all the time.
What we’re really asking is "What do you do? Why are you here?"
All of us - as individuals, organizations or corporations – are driven by a purpose. For some, the purpose of their business is to make money for themselves, for their company or for shareholders. By definition, the term ‘business’ means "purposeful activity".
So, what is the business of Buckner?
Our mission statement sets forth the purpose of Buckner as being the "restoration and healing of individuals and the family". That is the business of Buckner. We are in the business of restoring people to the place God intended for them to be. Ours is the business of healing the brokenhearted.
You may wonder whether or not Buckner is really a business. No, we don’t manufacture a product. And we don’t pay dividends to shareholders. But every day, the organization of Buckner and our employees are driven by our purpose of restoration and healing.
Every year, hundreds of individuals, churches, corporations and foundations contribute generously to the business of Buckner. In a way, these donors are investing financially in Buckner just as stockholders invest in a publicly-trades company. For these donors/investors, their dividend is the blessing of seeing lives changed.
One we have seen the needs of people around us, we are responsible for helping to meet those needs. That is the business of Buckner.
